well, here they are, the results for the first ever FotZ25hozzt...and i must say that i for one was rather dissapointed with the entries. but still...a contest is a contest, and a winner is a winner...so here are the scores from first to last... -------------------- overall - out of 180 -------------------- ZZTbot - 128.7 Redmage - 94.6 Atrocity - 69.4 ZZTyrant - 63.5 --------------------------------------- explination of scores and catagories... --------------------------------------- Graphics - x/5 Graphics, fairly simple, the higher the better, but not the most important thing in a game Sound - x/5 If there is no sound, the game gets a 3 on it. If there is sound, it is scored accordingly. The reason it's like this is because the overall score is based on the total of all of these things. Programming - x/10 Once again, farily simple. The more complex and varried and the less buggy games are, the better Writing - x/10 This encompasses plot, story, themes, and other things. Pretty much, if the writing sucks and is unorigional, then this gets a bad score. On-topicness - x/10 Next time i'm gonna rename this to "use of topic". If it's off topic or uses the topic poorly, lower score...weefun Origionality - x/10 Once again, plain and simple... Fun - x/10 I hope you're getting the idea... Once all of these scores and made, they are totaled. Highest total wins and becomes FotZ's vp. I think you sort of figured this out. -=-=-=-=-=-=- ye olde judge comments and scoring -=-=-=-=-=-=- GipFace's FotZ25hoZZT Judging. #117 Bio-Chem by RedMage (guess from toolkit) Graphics - 2.5 The dying commander pic was nice, but overall the graphics were of average quality and looked rushed. Road lines should NOT be one yellow fake, for example, and the maze appeared to have been made in half an hour. There was also no detail in any surrounding area - arent deserts supposed to have cacti? What was with the text 'fight' in one section of the maze? Sound - 3.0 There was no damn sound aside from the presets. What's with the idea of giving them 3 if they have no sound? Do you mean that if someone TRIED to make music, but made it very crappy, would they get a less score because they tried? I want to give this person 0.5, because bullet-shooting noises are fun. =) Programming - 5.2 There was some innovative board switching at times, but the rpg battles were long and boring... and standard. The author also forgot to connect his boards together in the maze - I got trapped the first time I played this. Also, in the red hallway, it is impossible to proceed the mutated commander without ?zapping your way through. These errors make the game unplayable unless you cheat. Writing - 5.8 You mean plot, right? What did Saddam Hussein have to do with anything in this game? Your typical average plot - kill the mutant bad guys. On-topicness - 10.0 This is a pointless category. A game is either ON topic, or OFF topic. Well, there was lots of death and violence in this game... can't go wrong there. Fun - 4.1 Needless to say, I DID NOT have fun with this game. I felt bored playing through the same rpg battles, and I just wanted the game to end. Sorry... but there was no plot twists or eye popping graphics to keep me appealed for long. This will get 2nd, I think. Overall - 30.6 / 50.0 #62 Untitled by Atrocity (guess from toolkit) - Graphics - 2.5 This was just about as average as vanilla ice cream. It has the same quality as Bio-Chem. There's good shading in some areas, but in others it looks totally rushed. Out of time, maybe? Sound - 3.0 No sound, other than bullet noises. JUST LIKE THE LAST GAME. Programming - 6.4 This game was unbeatable, too. About halfway through the game, you go to a moving engine but there is no way out. Cant these people test their game first?! Anyway, the programming was very simple... nothing too spectacular. I give him extra points on the neato rpg engine. Writing - 3.0 This plot was even worse than Bio-Chem's. You are a medieval dude, then you transport to the future, then the world blows up when you beat the final boss. Sorry, but the plot was really non-existent in this game. *cough* On-topicness - 9.0 If you could count touching objects as killing, sure. It was on topic. But the death part was bland. Fun - 3.5 Acky plops. This was a much worse game than Bio-Chem, and it almost seemed like a joke game. I must avoid homicide. The plot sucks, the *cough* sound *cough sucks, and the whole game sucks, aside from the rpg battles. A very disappointing entry by the creator of SuperWAD. This piece of crap does not show his skills at all. This will pick up a 3rd place finish, I think. Overall - 27.4 / 50.0 #7331 Sleep-Dying by ZZTbot - Graphics - 4.0 The simplicity of it just astounds me. The warped mind of death was a pleasure to see. He'll get the score what it deserves to be. Sound - 3.0 AGAIN WITH THE BULLET NOISES! Programming - 6.7 Agh! The instant-kill questions were very annoying, and the pink "B" boss was unbeatable, therefore making yet ANOTHER game unbeatable. This person obviously does not know the #cycle command, because all the objects operated at the default #cycle 3. Still, this game dosent have enough errors to grant it a lower score. I say this score is good enough. Writing - 8.1 Kudos to the person that thought of the plot. Obscure, but freaky, in a weird way. I think I'm gonna dream about death tonight. I would have given a 9.0, but the plot dosent dig deeper and deeper like other games. It'll still leave you thinking at the end, though. On-topicness - 10.0 Need I say more? Fun - 7.4 Well, this was a pretty fun game. The things I didnt like about it were the slow-as-a-snail moving pace, the impromptu questions, and the error boss. If this game was fine-tuned a bit, it would have made a great game. Still, the best game out of the bunch. Overall - 39.2 / 50.0 #8 Playing with Matches by ZZTyrant FotZ is obsessed with making their own toolkits) Graphics - 3.8 The title screen and 3rd board were good (because they were non-playable), but the rest of the game looked pretty mediocre. Sound - 5.0 The ONLY goddamn game with sound fx and music. This is a no-brainer. Unfortunately, the title music is bad compared to other pieces... but seeing as how the author put a half-assed effort into it makes me want to smile. And give the only perfect tech score out of all the entries aside from on-topicness. Programming - 4.7 The so-called RPG battle was unplayable. Also, the object blocking the passage in the intro does not #die, so yet another playable game bites the dust. The short length of the game makes me think that the author didnt seem to use his 25 hours wisely. There is approximately 15 objects in the game... nothing to cheer about. One word - awful. Writing - 3.5 This plot was even more gay than Untitled. The reason why I gave it a higher score was because at least I could understand it. On-topicness - 6.0 Uh... trying to run from a crime that you didnt commit is REALLY bending the death topic, I guess. Fun - 2.0 I had the least fun with this game. The shortness, the unplayablity after the 2nd board, and the stupidity of the plot made me want to throw up. I didnt even complete this game - the impossible rpg battle made this TRULY unplayable. The worst game out of the bunch. Overall - 25.0 / 50.0 Gipface's Final comments... - This was the most pitiful excuse of 24hoZZT entries I have ever seen. All four of them were unplayable to a certain extent, and only one (Sleep-Dying) was decent enough to give me a smile. The unknown author deserves to be the VP of Farts. If this is the caliber and quality of your whole company... all I have to say that the members need work in their ZZT skills... ESPECIALLY plot-writing and programming. Tell them to self-play the game once they are done to check for errors and such. --GipFace -=-=-=-=-=-=- Herc's Scores === #117: B10-Chem - Redmage * Graphics - 3/5 * Sound - 3/5 * Programming - 4/10 * Writing - 5/10 * On-topicness - 7/10 * Origionality - 5/10 * Fun - 5/10 --- * Total - 32/60 * Comments: "A long and decent entry, but it was buggy and the graphics seemed very rushed to me in some parts." === #62: (untitled) - Atrocity * Graphics - 2/5 * Sound - 3/5 * Programming - 5/10 * Writing - 3/10 * On-topicness - 6/10 * Origionality - 5/10 * Fun - 5/10 --- * Total - 29/60 * Comments: "The graphics weren't too good and the plot seemed a little weird to me. YAY SRI. #8-ZZTyrant graphics- 2.5 sound- 4 programming- 2 writing- 1 on-topicness- 0 total- 10.5 i was very, very dissapointed with this one. it was short, plotless, and the battle engine sucked. good luck next time...... -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- wayward's final comments -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Well, it's over. I didn't judge anything, but i'd like to thank those of you who judged the game. All in all, only one of the origional judges actually judged...interesting how that worked. But I couldn't agree with Gipface more, WE NEED TO WORK ON A FEW THINGS. Well, don't worry all of you who's name isn't ZZTbot, there will be another one of these after awhile, so you will all have another shot to become FotZ's VP, and maybe by then you all will have a little bit of a better understanding as to the quality of games expected in a 24hozzt (of 25 hours for that matter) game. Well, yay, that's all, see you around... wayward, leader of FotZ
